Tasting Notes: Ruby red with juicy morello cherry on the nose and velvety smooth tannins on the palate. While it is a denser wine, there is a freshness to the Zweigelt with toasted notes and a long finish.
Zweigelt is an Austrian grape variety, since World War II, the mostly widely produced grape in the country. Owners Georg and Lisa Weinwurm run their stunning vineyard in the northernmost wine growing region of Austria, Weinviertel. The vineyard was started by Georg's grandfather Anton, who in the 1950's planted what he thought were Gruner Veltliner grape vines. On maturation, he discovered that he had in fact planted the red varietal, Zweigelt grape vines. As an optimist, he saw this an a a good thing not a bad one - the grapes were of good quality with great flavour. Their 'Glucksmoment' (Lucky moment) was born.
