Piquepoul Noir grapes are now very rare, with only 250 acres of the grape now grown in France. Originally from the Languedoc, the grape's name translates as 'hen pecked' which is what the growers allow the hens to do in the vineyard - they peck and eat the grapes on the ground and those growing low.
